of Cabot, Arkansas, Est. 1876
Pastor Dennis Wilson was born in Batesville, Arkansas, where he was saved and baptized at Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church. He graduated from Batesville High School and attended Arkansas State University before returning to Batesville and surrendering to the ministry in 1983. He graduated with a Bachelors in Bible Languages from the Missionary Baptist Seminary in Little Rock where he also received a Masters in Theology. He furthered his education at Arkansas Baptist College with a Philosophy of Religion degree and then earned a Juris Doctorate from the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1994. In addition to pastoring, Dennis is a partner with the Wilson & Haubert, PLLC law firm in North Little Rock with practice emphasis in asset protection.
Bro. Wilson has been Mt. Pleasant's pastor since January, 1998. He is married to Cecelia Rutledge, also of Batesville, and they have two grown children: a son, Cody, and a daughter, Cheyenne.
Mt. Pleasant's Music Director is John McCoy.
John was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. As a child John and his family attended Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Birta, Arkansas where John was saved and baptized. He learned to sing from his mother and grandmother in Sunday School, and later with other family members in the church choir. When he was 12, he family moved to Romance, Arkansas to join a mission there. John, his sister Rebecca, and brother Jesse began singing as a trio or quartet with their mother. They made many trips to Bible School seminars, youth rallies, revivals, and other churches singing old-fashioned 4-part hymns, as well as some newer arrangements and original songs by John and Jesse. They also partnered with the West sisters from Des Arc and sang together as the group "New Life." Later, they met future brother-in-law Joshua West on a trip to Northwest Arkansas and began playing with him as a bluegrass group.
John attended Arkansas Tech University and the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville, majoring in Music Education. During this time he married his lovely wife Amanda. Though a time in retail sales sidelined his music work, he was able to renew his focus when he, Amanda, and their 4 wonderful children moved back to Central Arkansas in 2017. John plays several musical instruments and enjoys arranging songs for worship services and teaching music to his daughters.
